The story behind the song:

He had been at San Francisco playing The Fillmore, and he was staying at a boathouse (in Sausalito, across the bay from San Francisco), which is where he got the idea of the ship coming in. 

Redding died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967 (age 26), 6 weeks before this was released and 3 days after he recorded it. It was by far his biggest hit and was also the first ever posthumous #1 single in the US.

Cycle Speedway

Cycle Speedway is a type of bike racing created in the UK that’s pretty wild: a mix between track and BMX, riders fly around a small dirt oval.  Rider’s bikes must be equipped (or unequipped) as follows:

SECTION 6.1: A racing machine shall not be fitted with brakes, brake attachments, mudguards, rat-trap or all metal pedals, toe clips or straps, lamp brackets, wing-nuts, any form of gears or any other fittings considered dangerous by the referee.

Saw Ben L’oncle Soul open for Sharon Jones at Stern Grove last Sunday and he is a soul charming crooner of the first order.  He has a certain je ne sais quoi.  Probably because he’s french. and the best back up dancers.  High-energy fun that will put a wiggle in your step, check it.

Yo Gabba Gabba is the best kids show since Spongebob.  Super cute, but with plenty of 80’s grooves, great music video sequences, and popping costumes and colors.  Damn catchy; it’s  A must watch.
